In 2007, Latifah Lackey, a Black female entrepreneur, started creating candy buffets — colorful (or sometimes monochromatic) Wonka-inspired spreads. Seven years later, she launched Candy Gyrl, a candy-only mobile truck offering assortments of sweets and sours both classic and contemporary.

Lackey drives her “multi-colored, lollipop-topped truck” all around Philly “selling the latest and greatest hits from candy land,” and when she’s not bringing her sweets directly to each neighborhood, Lackey is renting out the truck to service private & public events. What’s more, Lackey’s Candy Gyrl website boasts a club wherein members receive “[customized] delectable candies for every month.” All you have to do is Grab Your Candygyrl Box, Set Your CandGyrl Profile, and Receive Your CandyGyrl Box right at your doorstep every month.

The saccharine Candy Gyrl menu offers options ranging from “gummy & chewy” to chocolate treats and fan favorites from decades past like Orange Slices and Chick-o-Sticks. Lackey, a clear candied cuisine expert, told What Now Philly she definitely has plans to open a brick-and-mortar in the future.

Lackey declined to comment further.
