Du Plessis did not immediately return a request for comment.

Affectionately referred to as “Essen North,” the new location – occupying 2,800 square feet – will feature du Plessis’ signature baked goods such as chocolate-halva babka, rugelach, and challa, as well as an expanded menu of bagels, breakfast, and lunch sandwiches, served alongside an exclusive Essen coffee, which du Plessis is teaming up with Elixr to create.

“The goal is to make Essen North more than just your standard bakery, and more of a sit-down cafe and restaurant where people can come for breakfast or lunch or to do some work,” du Plessis told Philly Mag, adding, “It’s been a long road to find the right space … I’m very confident the neighborhood will welcome this new location with open arms.”
