Liberty Kitchen, the popular Fishtown sandwich shop, is moving to a new location at 1400 North Front Street, reports Philadelphia Business Journal. Co-owners PJ Hopkins and Matt Budenstein are aiming for a June opening.
Liberty Kitchen’s expansion won’t be limited to space. The sandwich shop will also increase its operating hours and menu.
Liberty Kitchen is taking over the spot vacated by the Good Spoon Soupery. “We think it’s going to be a value add to the neighborhood”, Hopkins states.
Liberty Kitchen’s new home spans 2,000 square feet, versus the current location’s 1,500 square feet, and will include a full commercial kitchen. The indoor space will accommodate up to 24 customers. The North Front Street location also features a 1,500 square foot outdoor area that will provide additional al fresco seating.
Hopkins believes Liberty Kitchen will provide the community with a unique experience, stating “I’ve always loved the idea of…the old school…type of deli. We don’t have anything like that in the neighborhood.”
Once Liberty Kitchen moves to its new location, the local favorite will adopt an expanded schedule. The sandwich shop will be open from 10 am to 7 pm daily. The revamp will include the addition of a cafe that serves lunch and dinner all day.
Hopkins intends to carry Liberty Kitchen’s commissary program to the new location. The commissary invites local food businesses to rent space within Liberty Kitchen to create small-batch product lines.
Liberty Kitchen will host community events, including monthly tastings and four-course, family-style dinners. Hopkins also hopes to collaborate with local chefs.
Hopkins and Budenstein opened Liberty Kitchen’s original space in 2019. Hopkins states that customers will still be able to get their favorite menu items at the new location, however the shop will be adding new options, including weekly soups, meat and cheese boards, hot dinner options, and roast pork, as well as expanding its sandwich and salad offerings.
