The incoming Five Guys will join Chipotle at 34 East St, Camden, DE 19934 in the Shoppes at Camden this fall, according to David Czapski, Vice President of Operations for the location. While the establishment was originally slated to open earlier, delays caused by “projected equipment availability” halted things. However, with recently-erected signage and Czapski predicting a later September opening, hungry Camden customers will be eating Five Guys’ massive fast-casual platters in no time.

Five Guys was started by the Murrell family in 1986 in Arlington, Virginia. Under the guidance of their parents, Jerry and Janie, the four Murrell brothers “served only hand-formed burgers cooked to perfection on a grill along with fresh-cut fries cooked in pure peanut oil.” As the popularity of the family’s patty process grew, so too did their family. The Murrells happily added another son to the bunch, solidifying the “five guys” team. Today, each member of the quintet has a hand in the burger biz.

What Now Philly had the privilege of speaking with David Czapski about the location, what caused those dreaded delays, and how they plan to accommodate the long line of hungry customers who’ve been waiting for their arrival:

WNP: What are your hopes for the Camden location? Why was this location selected?

Five Guys: [We] hope the location can become a stable piece of the Camden community. Many of our stores have been successful with the local community and school fundraising events.  The store will be looking to employ upwards of 50 team members throughout the surrounding area to train and open the location.

This location was a key focus in the selection process for a new store due to its proximity to Dover, Delaware, and the nearby Air Force Base. Camden provided a great location near the area and a chance to build in a new market.

WNP: How many patrons can the location accommodate? Will there be outdoor seating?

Five Guys: The new location will seat about 45 customers, plus provide plenty of options from take-out and online ordering to delivery from local providers right to their door.

There is no outdoor seating at this location.

WNP: What can customers expect from the Camden location?

Five Guys: Customers can expect great food with generous portions, custom-made burgers, and a simple menu. As we are an open kitchen, customers can watch their food as each burger or order of fries is prepared, and milkshakes with an array of toppings are blended to order as they wait.
