Hobby’s Delicatessen is finally coming back to Newark. Brothers Michael and Marc Brummer have been working hard to open the restaurant’s doors after the beloved deli has been closed for two years. When What Now Philadelphia spoke to the Brummers this week, they didn’t have a date for when the reopening would happen as yet, but they are full of hope that they will be able to announce the date sometime soon. The location of the restaurant has not changed and that location is still 32 Branford Place #2723 in Newark, New Jersey.

The Deli has one hundred years of history and for sixty of those years it has been run by the Brummer family. The Brummer brothers’ plan is to reopen with takeout and delivery options and then open the dining areas later. What Now Philadelphia learned that they will be serving classic deli menu favorites like brisket, Reuben sandwiches, salads, burgers, and pastrami and the recipes will be the same as they always have been. Hobby’s Deli will continue to do their own pickling of corned beef and tongue on the premises. The restaurant’s motto is, after all, “Established Before You Were Born” and they honor the traditions that have been in their family for decades.
For the brothers, it’s all about serving the customers and it’s clear that they can’t wait to get back to that when their Deli reopens.
