Owner and baker Mardhory Cepeda, who was born in Brazil, has been dreaming about having a home base for her business for a long time. In 2017, Cepeda started selling her delicious snacks in New York, Brooklyn, Queens, and New Jersey. By 2019, she ventured out to Philly where she quickly became popular among the farmer’s market scene. In addition to her pop-up shops, Cepeda also began selling her pastries nationwide through her website.

Kouklet is known for dishing out Bolo de Rolo, a sweet cake roll native to the northeastern Brazilian state of Pernambuco. Creating Bolo de Rolo is a painstaking process that involves climate control to get the thin layers of buttery cake rolled up just right. The most traditional flavor is guava, which Cepeda sources directly from Brazil. Other flavors include Vegan Carrot and Chocolate, Passion Fruit, and Vanilla Birthday Cake.

Cepeda hopes that loyal and new customers alike will flock to Kouklet’s store to enjoy a slice of Bolo de Rolo with a cup of coffee for a quick snack or a late-night dessert. Other offerings may include Bolinhos Caseiros, brigadeiros and sonhos, a type of Brazilian donut. However, it has been previously reported that there is yet to be a firm opening date.
