The McIntyre family of Hellertown is getting ready to open their fifth McDonald’s franchise in Upper Saucon Township. The 3,045 sq.ft restaurant will be built from the ground up at Route 209 and Passer Road and include a dual-lane drive-thru when it opens in March. Franchise owner James McIntyre would often drive by the location, imaging how it would make the perfect spot for one of his franchises. Years later, the site wound up being developed, giving him the chance to build his own McDonald’s on it.

According to The Morning Call, some homes, a furniture store, and an apartment building was razed to make way for the construction of the McDonald’s and a Wawa gas station and convenience store.

McIntyre and his wife Karen also have two McDonald’s locations in Quakertown, one in Hellertown and one in Easton. McIntyre is a second-generation McDonald’s franchise owner and bought three franchises from his father, Chuck McIntyre, who started his first McDonald’s franchise in 1979. McIntyre says his Quakertown location will also host events where proceeds from restaurant sales go to a charity or local school. His restaurants have hosted about 65 of them so far.

“We try to be a part of the community and give back to the community,” McIntyre told What Now Philadelphia. “We appreciate our customers. We don’t exist without our customers, so we try to support the communities we’re in.”

McIntyre says he expects to hire about 70 employees to man the Quakertown McDonald’s. Those interested in employment can check out their Facebook page, which says they are offering $15 an hour with a flexible schedule and tuition assistance.
