Deptford locals Nick and Dana Umile are gearing up to open a new standalone restaurant for their flagship Nonna’s brand, officially dubbed Nonna’s Pizza – A Taste of Italy, located at 1491 Hurffville Rd in the storefront formerly occupied by La Polpetta, with their hopes pinned on opening around Thanksgiving, as first reported by local media outlet, 42 Freeway.

“We’re very happy to be opening up in the Deptford area,” Nick Umile tells What Now Philadelphia. “We’ve been residents here for 29 years, our kids all went to the Deptford school district and played local sports, so we’re very excited to bring good food to the area in a nice family-oriented type of place.”

The Umile’s are seasoned restaurateurs with more than 25 years of experience. Nick’s family had owned a pizzeria in Philadelphia since 1979, while Dana’s family were longtime operators of a cheesesteak shop in South Philly.

What’s more, the couple currently has a number of local outfits including Nicholas Anthony Catering and a Nonna’s Pizza outpost at the Philadelphia Union Subaru Park soccer stadium in Chester.

According to Nick Umile, however, once the new shop opens in Deptford, they’ll be able to bring all of their brands and operations together under one roof.

“I’m going to link everything into one – into Nonna’s – once we get the building here in Deptford,” says Nick Umile. “It’ll all be under Nonna’s Pizza – A Taste of Italy.”
