Paranormal Pizza, owned by twin brothers Marc and Joey Kubushefski, was never intended to actually be a thing. But through the unnatural influence of the internet, one vegan’s search to fulfill his wildest pizza desires turned into a brick-and-mortar storefront that will open at 554 North New St. in Bethlehem this spring. The Morning Call reports that Paranormal Pizza will be the first all-vegan pizza shop in Lehigh Valley.

“When you’re vegan, you don’t have to give up everything. It sucks to walk away from the foods you loved for so long. So, it’s nice to have those comfort foods like pizza and wings to bring back those memories and flavors you’re used to but in a completely cruelty-free way,” Kubushefski told What Now Philadelphia.

Paranormal Pizza will serve as a take-out-only location with about five signature pies and a rotating weekly special pie. They will eventually expand their menu and open their dining room for those who want to sit down and eat the pizza they’ve ordered at the counter. At Paranormal Pizza, you’ll find 16-inch pies like “The Scully,” a red sauce pie with cashew mozzarella, seitan pepperoni, and hot vegan honey, or “The Smoking Man,” a pie with a garlic knot crust, red sauce, cashew mozzarella, EVOO, and sea salt.

“We make all of our stuff in house. Except for our buffalo sauce and soy curls, but we make our own cheese from cashews and make our own seitan for the ‘pepperoni,’” Kubushefski says. “I think that’s what makes our pizza stand out.”

Kubushefski says Paranormal Pizza is his exit strategy in a career he never intended to stay in for long but ended up working in for about a decade. But he didn’t plan it that way. Kubushefski, who has previous experience working in pizzerias, started making vegan pizzas that’s were so delicious looking that he was encouraged to make an Instagram page for them. That’s when people started asking if they could buy his pizzas. The Kubushefskis participated in some pop-up events and things just snowballed from there. Kubushefski says his pizzas became a hit because the vegan aspect isn’t an afterthought or marketing strategy. It’s pizza made for vegans by vegans who want to eat delicious pizza but without animal products.

“This is going to be a new adventure for us. It seems like there’s a lot of hype already locally. So, we’re excited, and to decorate the restaurant with our spooky kind of X-Files theme,” Kubushefski said. “It’s going to have a cool vibe behind it.”
