Pennsylvania Winemaker Goes Out On His Own With Acadian Wine Company

The vineyard's tasting room is expected to open this April.

After serving as head winemaker at Nissley Vineyards & Winery, Kyle Jones is breaking out on his own with The Acadian Wine Company at the former Kreutz Creek Vineyards, at 553 South Guernsey Rd. in West Grove, PA. The vineyard’s tasting room is expected to open sometime in April.

“I have been making wine for several years, and while I don’t come from a family that has land, we have owned businesses, so the potential of owning a winery as a business was always there for me,” Jones told Chester County Press. “Winemaking is a creative outlet for me, but starting from scratch in the wine industry seems like a daunting undertaking, but the potential of our growing regions and taking over a turn-key operation has made this more achievable.”

Chester County Press reports that Jones purchased the Kreutz Creek Vineyard property in November, which includes eight acres of land, a production facility, and a spacious home that overlooks the vineyard. Four of those acres include 20-year-growth of Viti vinifera hybrid grapes and complex Bordeaux varieties. Jones also plans to grow some Carbernet Franc, Chambourcin, Chardonnay, Merlot, Petit Verdot, and Vidal. The tasting room at The Acadian Wine Company will encompass several rooms of the middle level of the house on the property, as well as the house’s deck.

“I want this to be a space where people can partake in a celebration of wine,” Jones told Chester County Press. “We want our guests to be welcomed here to our’ home,’ where they can enjoy the fruits of our labor on this magnificent piece of property.”

When the tasting room is ready to open in April, it will serve some of Jones’ blends, as well as wines from the region. The vineyard’s first harvest won’t be ready for several months. When their harvest is ready, Jones promises that it will be well worth the wait.

“I will be welcoming guests into my’ home’ and offering them wines that I have made and stand behind, without question,” he said. “I will be able to put my wine on the table beside varietals from California, Italy, and France and unabashedly say, ‘this is Pennsylvania wine, and it belongs here.’”
