Rival Brothers Coffee is in the process of converting its location at 1528 Spruce Street in The Touraine into an all-day cafe called Enswell that is a collaboration with New Liberty Distillery. Their other two locations at 2400 Lombard Street and 1100 Tasker Street remain open, but this is a development that promises something very interesting.

Damien Pileggi, co-founder, and co-owner of Rival Brothers confirmed that this was happening when What Now Philadelphia spoke with him via phone. Pileggi and lifelong friend Jonathan Adams are the founders of Rival Brothers Coffee and while Pileggi is experienced with coffee bean roasting, Adams is a talented chef. They both worked in restaurants together and dreamed of opening their own place. They both became interested in coffee and Pileggi learned the trade of coffee roasting during his travels to the West Coast.

Rival Brothers started with a coffee truck and then opened a coffee shop after their truck’s success. They do have the advantage of roasting their own beans for the coffee that they make in their coffee shops.

The nature of the collaboration between Rival Brothers Coffee and New Liberty Distillery has been announced on the Rival Brothers Facebook page which says, “In the mornings, you can expect a similar coffee experience as our other cafes, but with an expanded menu of breakfast items.” and “Thanks to a partnership with our friends New Liberty Distillery, the focus of the beverage program will transition from coffee-focused to cocktail-heavy in the evening.”

The post goes on to say that Enswell will feature “New Liberty’s locally made line of spirits, along with a selection of Pennsylvania beer and wine, the menu will be complemented by light fare.” and that New Liberty spirits will be sold on the restaurant’s retail shelves.

Additionally, the space, which has been closed since the beginning of the pandemic, will be fully renovated and redesigned and the post states Rival Brothers has joined with Giuliano Pignataro and Liz Solms, founders of Spruce Street Commons and owners of The Touraine, to bring on Stokes Architecture + Design to complete a full-scale renovation of the space and that it will include a new bar, an expanded kitchen, additional seating for guests both indoors and outdoors, and thoughtful displays as part of the bottle shop.

The post doesn’t go into more detail about the specifics of the new menu or an opening date, but this is already exciting news and the post does encourage the reader to follow the new site and Instagram page for Enswell to get updates.
