The facility, built from the ground up, will include four Full Swing Golf Simulators, a 25-seat bar, a lounge, and a restaurant.
Each simulator provides seating for up to eight guests. Golf novices shouldn’t be intimidated by their lack of experience; the simulators provide privacy as well as instruction and guidance for those just starting out in the game.
Hook & Irons is the culmination of a long partnership between friends and co-owners Fred Ayars and Johnny Maxwell. Ayars spoke to What Now Philadelphia about the project, explaining that the pair honed their hospitality skills over 20 years of DJ-ing events.
Ayars states “It became our goal to someday open a hospitality facility of some sort. That took many versions over the years, but one evening in September 2017 we found an indoor golf simulator place in Pennsylvania, and instantly knew this was our niche. We both love to golf. Take note, that I am not saying we are great golfers, but only that we love to golf”.
Hook & Irons is currently hiring staff for its kitchen.
The restaurant will serve informal comfort food. Ayars describes the menu as “Mostly handhelds, with the usual fried bar fare as well. We’re not going to be a fork and knife type of place. But our burgers and sandwiches are going to be fire.”
Ayars and Maxwell have strong roots with the Salem area. Hook & Irons’ Pennsville location allows the pair to provide a high-quality dining and entertainment experience to the community they love.
Ayars adds “We always said we wanted to be ‘local boys doing something good in our community’. Because we are both from Salem, this meant staying in or around Salem. We shopped around for a property for quite awhile…We bounced around Carneys Point, Pennsville, Woodstown, Salem, and Elsinboro, before finally finding this property in Pennsville. It has great access to all major highways in the area, as well as Delaware via the Delaware Memorial Bridge. AND there was a liquor license available. So everything fell into place.”
Ayars and Maxwell have a long history of public service. Maxwell is a former firefighter and Ayars is the current Salem City Fire Chief. The two plan to honor their public safety roots by offering a discount to customers working in the sector.
Hook & Irons will be open from 10 am through midnight daily. The establishment also sells branded hats, t-shirts, and hoodies.
Golf lovers and those just hoping for a delicious burger are all welcome at Hook & Irons. Ayars assures “When guests arrive to Hook & Irons they can expect to be greeted by friendly faces, anxious to provide a high-quality experience for the duration of their stay. That’s what we want to create here … an experience.”
