The eatery, celebrated for its chocolate chip walnut cookies, is aiming to enter the Philadelphia dining market at 1516-1518 Walnut Street.

The bakery is still in the preliminary phases. Levain will be requesting special exception approval at a Zoning Board of Adjustment meeting on April 10. The company intends to maintain the integrity of the historical building, which was constructed in 1926.

Levain Bakery’s Chief of Staff Stephanie Menke states: “It’s an extremely thoughtful diligence process that we take, and when we saw this site we were like, ‘Wow, we think we can bake some cookies here.”

While Levain built its brand with its signature cookies, the bakery will also serve pastries, bread, tea, and coffee.

Menke expresses confidence that the Philadelphia market will welcome Levain and its delicious treats. “I think Philadelphia’s a city that comes to mind in terms of a crowd that really has a lot of pride in their city and has a pride in kind of the local nature of it, and that’s something that’s a really core part of the ethos of our brand.”

Levain will be open between 7 a.m. and 10 p.m.
