While the restaurant is still in the incredibly preliminary phases, Chubby Cattle is striving to have the unusual barbecue establishment feeding hungry guests by the end of 2024.

Chubby Cattle founding partner David Zhao spoke to What Now Philadelphia briefly about the restaurant group’s barbecue ambitions.  He states “I don’t see a barbecue experience like we provide in Philly yet. The key here is we utilize wagyu from our own ranch and caviar from our own farm. We have seafood that’s fresh. In terms of experience it will be the best you can have in Philadelphia for the price.”

Chubby Cattle prides itself on owning its own farms, where it raises its own ingredients, allowing it to monitor the quality and to offer extremely fresh, delicious ingredients at a reasonable price. Zhao explains “The most important thing for us and what we do as a group is to bring the freshest ingredients. Prior to owning our own ranch, we had to fly in ingredients from all over the world.”

Chubby Cattle is experiencing a very productive period of growth and development. The company is opening Chubby Nori, a restaurant focusing on hand rolled sushi, in February of 2024. The group is also experimenting with crowd-funding its latest endeavors, a method it will likely employ for Chubby Cattle BBQ. Zhao feels this allows customers to feel a sense of ownership and builds a stronger relationship between a restaurant and its clientele.
