Local restaurateurs of Martinez Hospitality, Juan and Melanie Martinez, will open a new concept in the Emmaus restaurant space on Chestnut St. that last housed Pizza Hut.

Melly Mel’s Chicken, named for Melanie Martinez, will be all about the chicken, as you might have guessed. Juan Martinez wrote in an email to What Now Philadelphia, “We will be serving fried chicken tenders, regular and Melly Hot, milkshakes, fries and donuts.” The fast-casual eatery came about as an expression of Martinez’s love for fried chicken, and of course, his wife.

Like many new restaurants opening in the time of covid, this chicken joint will feature self-ordering kiosks as well as the opportunity to order through QR codes and apps. “The restaurant will mostly be designed for drive through orders, online & mobile orders and we will have about 14 seats available for indoor dining,” Martinez added.

You will have to wait just a little while longer than expected to sample the creations of this kitchen, though. “We recently got approval to have a drive-thru something we didn’t expect to happen right away, so we are back at the design phase to accommodate for it, we are shooting for late January 2022,” wrote Martinez.

Martinez Hospitality is also behind Don Juan Mex Grill, which if it is an indication, means Melly Mel’s is sure to be a hit. Visit Martinez Hospitality online to learn more about both concepts.
