Bojangles plans to make its New Jersey opening salvo at 1000 Stelton Road in Middlesex County. The restaurant has petitioned the Zoning Board of Adjustment for site plan and bulk and use variance approvals. If approved, the area will undergo several changes to accommodate the chicken franchise. The application includes requests for new sidewalks, concrete curbing, parking spaces, landscaping, and lighting.
Franchisees Vaidya and Patel have signed with Bojangles to open ten locations across Middlesex, Union, Bergen, Hudson, and Essex counties. The Piscataway store is the only one so far with a specific, desired space, and will be New Jersey’s first Bojangles.
The pair have previously focused their efforts on Burger King restaurants. Speaking to Franchise Times, Vaidya explained the duo’s decision to add Bojangles to their portfolio, stating “We love their spicy, juicy, tender chicken. Bojangles offers outstanding fried chicken, the dirty rice, even their iced tea. We wanted to bring something unique and different that wasn’t available in our market.”
Bojangles opened its first restaurant in North Carolina in 1977. The chain achieved great success and now includes 818 United States locations.
The Bojangles menu focuses heavily on its signature bone-in fried chicken. The restaurant offers a wide variety of sides, including coleslaw, macaroni and cheese, and grits.
