Montgomery County beer fans will soon have a new favorite place to drink and relax. Brass Collar Brewing Co. is opening its first taproom in Souderton later this fall, reports The Philadelphia Business Journal.
The successful young brewery will be taking over an old freight train building located at 100 South Front Street. Brass Collar co-founder Ben Israel spoke to What Now Philadelphia about the company’s new home and its plans for Montgomery County.
“We really fell in love with Souderton”, Israel states, explaining how he and partner Brody Bisson chose their new home. He explains that opening the taproom is a combination of practical considerations and the pair pursuing their passion. “With the popularity we have with our distribution only model we realized that there were better margins with the taproom model.” he says, adding “It was always our dream to open our own spot. We got really lucky and got a really nice spot on the train tracks.”
The Brass Collar taproom will offer both indoor and outdoor seating. Israel describes the breakdown of the space, stating “We’ll have a taproom with a smaller, fully inside part, holding about 20 people, and we’ll have an enclosed patio that holds about 60 people. We have a big outdoor patio that holds 60 to 80 people.”
Israel and Brody ultimately intend to brew all of their beers at the new location. The brewery is subleasing its kitchen space to Menagerie Foods, ensuring customers don’t go hungry. Israel explains that while Menagerie has a Jamaican Jerk hut and food truck service, they will be providing traditional bar food and a rotating menu at the taproom..
Brass Collar’s taproom is still under construction, however the brewery has been doing pop-up beer gardens. Israel and Brody are aiming to open in mid-November, and to commit to full-scale brewing by the end of 2023.
The Brass Collar’s future regulars and curious visitors can look forward to a wide range of beverages, both alcoholic and non. Israel states “Our specialty is the variety we’re going to have. Our mission is to have a drink everyone will love.”
