Charles Terry is no stranger to the franchise business. At one time, he had 15 Popeye’s franchises and even served as their director of operations. But when his childhood friend Tobias Harris of the Philadelphia 76ers told him about Crumbl Cookies, he saw a brand that represented the same values he stands for in business: good service, quality product, and great energy. After volunteering at a Grand Rapids, Michigan location for a day, he immediately knew he had to start looking for properties to open his own franchise.

“I had 15 [Popeye’s] locations at one time, but I wasn’t touching people with the same excitement. It’s a totally different excitement and different happiness you see from these kids and families. I love seeing the smiles on the kids and customers,” Terry told What Now Philadelphia. “When people come into this business, they’re excited to get that cookie, to see what the new flavors of the week are. Sometimes we even have customers coming in twice a week. So, who doesn’t want to see that day in and day out and also grow and keep growing?”

In January, Terry opened his first Crumble Cookies in Wynnewood, with Harris serving as the brand ambassador. Now he’s getting ready to open two new locations. The Gateway Shopping Center store, at 125 Swedesford Rd. in Wayne, will open in May, and the Lawrence Park Shopping Center location, at 1991 Sproul Rd. in Broomall unit 452B, will open sometime this summer.

It’s hard not to smile when you walk into a Crumbl and are surrounded by the smell of fresh baked cookies and pretty pink decor. Not only is Terry pleased to make his customers happy, but he also finds joy in the fact that his employees, mostly younger or first-time workers, are having fun at work in an atmosphere they enjoy.

“It’s great to be in neighborhoods where we can touch more lives touch and bring family and friends together over the best box of cookies in the world,” Terry said.

But when it comes down to business, Terry says the product does the talking and sells itself. Crumbl Cookies serves a menu of fresh-baked cookies with their milk chocolate cookie and chilled sugar cookie as staples. Their weekly rotating menu has about four or five different specialty flavors filled with gooey goodness or topped with delicious frosting that change each week. This week’s menu includes flavors like Cornbread, a sweet cornbread cookie with honey butter glaze, topped with a dollop of honey buttercream frosting, and a drizzle of honey.
