Ellen Freeman, the attorney representing Wawa, sent a letter dated July 18 to Bethlehem officials, requesting approval for a liquor license transfer for the new store.

Freeman’s letter explains that Wawa has made arrangements to purchase a restaurant liquor license from PA Overlook LLC in Upper Mount Bethel Township, as there are none available within the city of Bethlehem. Transferring the license to Bethlehem requires approval from both the city council and the Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board, as well as a public hearing.

If approval is received, the store, located at 700 Hellertown Road, will be able to sell wine and beer. Additionally the store will have a seating area, in accordance with Pennsylvania law.

An opening date has not yet been set for the Wawa. Construction is currently underway on the location, which formerly housed Chris’s Restaurant.

Wawa has been capturing the hearts of East Coasters since its inception in 1964. The convenience store, founded in Folsom, Pennsylvania, has attained a massive fan following and a wide-spread presence. Wawa currently has 1,017 stores spread across Delaware, Maryland, Florida, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Washington D.C.

Wawa customers can order a wide-range of customizable, made-to-order sandwiches for breakfast, lunch, or dinner. Additionally, the establishment serves hot bowls, soups, sides, and the ever-popular seasonal favorite, the Gobbler.
